Submissions Page
Why submit to J.F. Pringle?
- Face in the Dark Blog is dedicated to helping up-and-coming, unpublished horror and dark fiction writers get published online. Submissions are accepted from everyone in every walk of life.
- Only the best submissions are published.
- Selection is not guaranteed. Although we accept all submissions, selection for publication is based off the quality of work within a given timeframe and/or writing event. This helps J.F. Pringle‘s contributors to be taken seriously as we only provide a platform for writers with outstanding work.
- Growth and Opportunity
- Many paying publications require that you have been previously published. Consider this a steppingstone towards greater heights in your career…and paychecks, of course.
- We know that submitting your “baby” to scrutiny is a hard step to take. You’ve worked hours and hours, found just the right words, edited tirelessly…made it perfect. Now, it’s time to hand it over to the proverbial wolves to get torn to pieces, possibly? Hard, right? Yes, it is…which is why you should do it! Even if you don’t end up getting published on this site, you’ll have grown in experience–you’re one “no” closer to a “yes”. But if you DO get published, you’ll feel great about your work and be able to provide a link to show your proud accomplishment. However, no risk, no reward.
- Perks
- All contributors get exclusive access to articles designed to help propel you towards success in your writing career. James knows how it feels to have no clue what the next step is.
- All contributors get a chance to speak directly with James to get a personally tailored conversation and guidance.
- All contributors will get a free, signed, and personalized printed edition of the most recent book by J.F. Pringle.

- All entrants are automatically subscribed to the J.F. Pringle Newsletter (opt out is optional)
- All rights to the work submitted remain with the author whether it is published here or not.
General Guidelines
- J.F. Pringle is a site devoted to thriller, horror, macabre tales, the paranormal, the mysterious, etc. Please ONLY submit stories that align with the theme of the site. Otherwise, you may risk rejection. Poem submissions, however, may venture beyond those limitations as long as it aligns with the season’s prompt.
- Only one submission per writing event, please. Multiple submissions will be rejected beyond your first.
- No single work is to exceed 10,000 words. Anything above the given word count will be rejected.
- Any work containing writing explicitly detailing an act of sexual abuse or violence will be rejected. Allusions are fine.
- Any work with intentionally hateful content (racist, misogynistic, overtly bigoted) will be rejected.
- Any work containing pornographic details will be rejected. J.F. Pringle is not a site meant for erotica.
- Any work that does not address the current prompt will be rejected.
- All work MUST be the author’s original work. Fanfiction, AI generated (assisted), or ghostwritten will NOT be accepted (knowingly, anyways) or published.
- Excerpts of greater works will not be accepted unless it is a standalone story.
- Every work submitted will receive an initial email confirming that the submission was successful.
- A second email will be sent as soon as the submission is being processed.
- Third emails will be sent once a story has been accepted for publication.
- The work that is selected will undergo proofreading and editing for publication. Author’s will have final approval of the work before being published.
- At this time, J.F. Pringle does not pay authors for their work. Hopefully, that changes soon.
